The Emotional Benefits of a Wall Fountain to Your Workplace
Often when a child sees a wall fountain the terminology they use to describe it (and often with glee or awe) is WATERFALL. These fountains, which are increasingly accessible through online retailers and mass production, mimic the natural occurrence of water falling over a precipice, cascading endlessly into space. This natural sound, which may at first seem artificial or out of place in your workplace, holds hidden benefits for the human psychology and should certainly be considered as you plan your work area.
Firstly, waterfalls are eternal. The water falls, and falls, and falls… It is an endless cycle without beginning or end, an energized constant. In nature the water is running from a high reservoir to a low reservoir powered by gravity. In a wall fixture it is powered by electricity drawing water from a pool at the bottom to the top where it flows down a surface, usually lit by overhead light to better display and illuminate the course of the flow.
The human mind enjoys the sound of running water in the distance as our basic psychology understands that a stream is a source of water and security. Also many, like the child, associate waterfalls with exotic natural locales and wonders. That little color in the back of your mind may be enough to turn an entire workday for the better.
Waterfalls also attract the eyes. This can be very useful for impressing visitors, but it is also useful for entertaining your subconscious. In a static office environment nothing changes. This grows stale and dull. The movement of falling water is never stale or dull and having it in an office is often enough to defeat the dead stillness and empower the space, entertaining the eye and the mind through it.
